Women’s History Month – Her History is OUR History

Welcome to Women’s History Month! This month we commemorate the achievements and leaders that have paved the way for women today. To celebrate, the Women’s Fund will share various women in history along with the history that was made due to the efforts of women.

Women’s History Month has two important dates to remember.

March 8: International Women’s Day, a global day of celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion”. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.

March 12: Equal Pay Day marks the current state of the gender pay gap for women: 84% for full-time, year-round workers and 78% for all workers (including part-time and seasonal).

How can I celebrate?

You may be thinking, “How can I celebrate Women’s History Month and these other dates?” Don’t worry, we have some great ideas for you!

1. Honor her history Honor a woman who has made history with a gift to the Women’s Fund! Your donation can help women and girls in the Fox Valley write their own stories by making a gift to the Women’s Fund!
2. Join us at Mondo! on Equal Pay Day! Join us on Tuesday, March 12, Equal Pay Day, from 4-8 pm for our very own Julie Keller to take the reins at Mondo! Wine Bar to bring awareness to the 84-cent pay wage gap earned by women for every dollar by men. 10% of bar sales and all tips will benefit the Women’s Fund! Save the date here!
3. Host an Equal Pay Day Fundraiser! Host a fundraising event for the Women’s Fund where you charge the gender pay gap, $0.84 for women and $1.00 for men such as a:

  • Bake sale
  • Lemonade sale
  • Soup cook-off
4. Celebrate International Women’s Day With the theme of International Women’s Day being “Inspire Inclusion,” the International Women’s Day website has many ways organizations can champion a campaign!
5. Learn more about the Women’s Fund You can invite the Women’s Fund to your workplace to learn more about the impact of the Women’s Fund and how together as a community we can support equity for women and girls in the Fox Valley. To learn more and to plan a time for the Women’s Fund to come to your workplace, please reach out to Terri St. Lawrence.
6. Attend Community Events Ongoing: The Trout Museum of Art’s featured exhibition from January 12 – May 12, Illuminating Women. Illuminating Women is a collaboration between Juliane Troicki and Laura Schneider telling the stories of 30 incredible women from the Appleton area.

March 8: International Women’s Day free admission from 10 am – 7 pm and panel from 5-7 pm highlighting some of the inspiring women featured in TMA’s Illuminating Women exhibition at the Trout Museum of Art. RSVP for the panel here.

March 21: Berstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass will be hosting its Art After Dark event from 6-8:30 pm with a Women’s History Month theme. They will be collecting items to donate to the Monthlies Project as well.

Do you have a Women’s History Month community event we can highlight? Please send them to Stacie Hazlett-Rothe and we’d be happy to share them.
