BRA-VO to Girl-Powered Giving!

In the Spring of 2024, six high school-aged girls came together for the Girl-Powered Giving Program to grant $10,000 to local nonprofit organizations. The girls wanted to focus their funding on the basic needs of low-income middle school girls, and one of the organizations they chose to support was the Community Clothes Closet to help launch their BRA-VO program.

The Community Clothes Closet shared an update with us that we’re excited to share with you all,

Thank you to the Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region and to the young women who empowered so many local girls this summer! The $6,000 investment made by Girl-Powered Giving was used to purchase 1,040 brand-new beginner bras. Because we were able to find bras at a lower price than projected ($5.77 vs. $7.25), we purchased 212 more – surpassing the goal of 827 bras.

Reaction to this new clothing item has been very, very positive. One mother shared that she knew her twin daughters needed their first bras for months, but the family didn’t have the extra money. “Once they start wearing them, it’s an on-going expense. I could see they were self-conscious and, now that we got these, I think that might be better. Thank you so much for thinking of this!”
During the two-day Cool for School event at Community Clothes Closet, girls scooped up 278 bras and the rest of the undergarments are being provided to clients on the Shopping Floor in August and September. If there are some bras remaining, they will be stored for 4 to 6 months and made available to girls once again, giving a new group the confidence and comfort made possible by Girl-Powered Giving. Thank you all from the hundreds of girls that have benefited from your generosity!
