FINANCIAL FLUENCY INITIATIVE
Initiative Description
Community Resources
INITATIVE DESCRIPTION
The Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region, Inc. recognizes that at the core of a woman’s ability to be self-sufficient is the opportunity to attain financial stability. Economically self-sufficient women are at the heart of content, secure families, and it is these families that make healthy communities. Through this initiative the Women’s Fund will work to provide all women in our community access to financial education resources.
Women today control individual and family spending, run the majority of small businesses in this country and an increasing number of corporations, and select their own investments—making financial fluency for women and girls of primary importance.
The objectives of the Financial Fluency Initiative are to communicate to women and girls the value of understanding financial matters; to encourage openness and a willingness to pursue help with any gaps in knowledge; and to offer options of support.
The Women’s Fund has always done education around philanthropy and funded programs that support women’s economic self-sufficiency, however with this new initiative, the Women’s Fund will work more deliberately to create social change around women’s perceptions of money and financial matters.
The goals of the initiative include:
- Increased awareness of community resources available for financial advice.
- Increase in the amount of women pursuing financial education information.
- Increased awareness of community self-sufficiency programs.
- Increased understanding of charitable giving options among current and future women’s fund donors.
