2010 Grantee Partners Announced

The Women’s Fund is pleased to announce $75,173 in competitive grant awards for 2010. These grants were awarded during two separate cycles in January and April of this year.

JANUARY 2010 - $27,000

FINANCIAL FLUENCY INITIATIVE GRANTS

These grants were made possible by the generous support of Community First Credit Union and their matching funds for our 2008 year-end appeal.

 

B.A.B.E.S, Inc. Respite & Counseling Services, Women’s Minds Project - $3,000: Offers extended childcare and supportive services to allow more young mothers to attend college.

 

Best Friends of Neenah-Menasha, Higher Education Initiative - $1,000: Launches a pilot program to increase post-secondary education among mentees by providing access to career exploration, college placement tests, and financial aid.

 

CAP Services, Inc., Skills Enhancement Program - $6,650: Helps single female heads of households receive education, training and life skills that allow participants to compete for living wage jobs with employer-sponsored health insurance benefits.

 

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., Project POWER - $5,000: Enables women who are victims of domestic violence to overcome barriers and obtain or maintain employment that will help them achieve economic independence.

 

Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Project TechSpace - $4,000: Provides low-income middle school age girls with a summer career exploration program in science and technology related fields.

 

Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Wo/Men’s Educational Bureau - $2,600: Helps Fox Valley women gain access to education, develop important job skills, increase self-confidence, and achieve lifelong self-sufficiency.

  

Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs, Women Obtaining Work - $4,000: Assists women in obtaining economic self-sufficiency in the hope that they will not return to their abusers purely out of financial desperation.


Wisconsin Interfaith Needs Response, Donated Wheels and Loan Program - $750: Provides low-income women with a vehicle maintenance class and financial counseling to ensure they have the knowledge and financial capability to care for their donated vehicle.



APRIL 2010 - $48,173

ANNUAL COMPETIVE GRANT CYCLE

These grants were made possible by distributions from our endowment and generous annual gifts from supporters like you.  Special thanks to Great Northern Corporation for their grant collaboration funding.  The Women’s Fund has awarded grants annually since 1997.  Total competitive grants now exceed $389,000.

 

American Red Cross – Outagamie Chapter, Shopping & Errand Services - $1,000: Helps older adults and those with disabilities meet their basic needs and continue to live independently.

 

Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs of the Fox Valley, SMART Girls - $2,500: Offers girls age 7-15 opportunities to develop positive choices and healthy life skills in an interactive, small group setting.

CHAPS Academy, Inc., Hope Lives! Youth Suicide Prevention and Intervention Program - $2,500: Provides adolescent girls with equine-assisted psychotherapy to address and treat the issues of depression and prevent suicide.


Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., “Breathing Underwater” Teen Girls Support Group - $782: Addresses teen dating violence through an eight-week program to help teen girls identify the qualities of a healthy relationship and improve safety from violence.

 

Elizabeth Ministry Retreat & Resource Center, Reclaim Dignity - Mother & Daughter Retreats - $1,500: Offers mother and daughter retreats to equip mothers with the resources to raise confident girls who develop strong self-esteem and healthy living habits.

 

Fox Valley Sibling Support Network, Summer Sibling Camps - $2,675: Offers respite and leadership opportunities to girls who have siblings with special needs and renews healthy family relationships.

 

Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Wo/Men’s Educational Bureau - $7,500: Helps Fox Valley women gain access to education, develop important job skills, increase self-confidence, and achieve lifelong self-sufficiency.

 

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc., New Vision - $4,866: Creates an opportunity for girls at the Outagamie County Juvenile Detention Center to improve their lives, build self-esteem through leadership skills and connect with positive role models.

 

NAMI Fox Valley, Wings of Change Support Group - $5,000: Provides support, information, education, fellowship and emotional healing to women with mental illness who have experienced violence in their lives.


Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin,
Expanding Access to Health Care for Latina Women - $1,500: Increases access to reproductive health care, cancer screening and education for Latina women in the Fox Valley to empower them to make healthy choices and to reduce negative health outcomes.

 

Reach Counseling Services, Inc., Sexual Assault & Eating Disorders Support - $2,000: Provides direct, therapeutic services to young women who are survivors of sexual abuse and struggling with the debilitating effects of anorexia and/or bulimia.

 

Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley, Inc., Samaritan Fund - $5,000: Provides access to counseling services for every woman and girl who seeks counseling, regardless of their ability to pay.

 

Sexual Assault Crisis Center - Fox Cities Inc., School Age Prevention Education Programs - $5,000: Offers classroom safety presentations to give children and teens the skills to avoid sexual abuse and sexual assault.

 

The Arc Fox Cities, Healthy Lifestyles Education Program - $3,000: Educates participants with developmental disabilities about healthy relationships to prevent them from becoming victims of sexual assault.
